I got a ticket

Grrrr.

I guess our local police dept. doesn't have anything better to do on a Tuesday afternoon at 1 o'clock than to give me a ticket for parking the wrong way in front of my own house during my lunch break.  I 'm half tempted to show up at court and contest it, but then again it's only $15.  Frustrating.

Awesome video!

3 Things to Ponder

He formed his talk around a sociological study (Campolo is a sociologist by training) conducted with people over the age of 95. The survey asked them, if you could do life over again what would you do differently? Most responses fell into three categories:
1. Reflect more
2. Risk more
3. Do more that would live on after I’m gone

It's so easy isn't it to get stuck in the hear and now, striving for what is comfortable and safe.  But, in the end, what kind of life is that?

A great reminder.

That's alot of music!

Now, this is a great representation of what the Church should be like! Really blows away the mentallity of performance (you know , just sit back and watch) so prevalent in churches today.

Winter Olympic Mishap

I'm sure that anyone who saw the Olympics last night is talking about this.  After two other riders crash and American rider Lindsey Jacobellis takes a strong lead, she does a little something (some say show boating, she said she was trying to stabilize herself) mid-air on the last jump and misses the landing, meanwhile the rider who was behind her flies by, winning the gold medal.  Ouch.  Now, I'm not going to pass any judgements, if she says she was trying to stabilize herself then thats what she was doing, but man that's got to be rough, though a silver medal ain't to bad either.

New Car

Well, new to us at least.  Last night we drove away in our new 2003 Toyota Corolla.  Got a great deal and you can't go wrong with a Toyota, as a matter of fact our other older car is, wouldn't you know, a Corolla ('92).  So, needless to say we are happy and excited.  This is the first car that we have bought as a married couple, so that's cool too.

Some strange coincidences occurred when we were buying it though.

As we were doing all the paperwork with the finance guy, we discovered the following:

Manufacture date of the car: June 7
Our wedding anniversary: June 7
The finance guys b-day: June 7

Plus,

My wife's name: Rachel
The finance guy's dog's name: Rachel

Weird.  I guess it was meant to be.

Athletes of God

Home

The Winter Olympics have begun and most of the world will spend the next several days watching some of the most dedicated and well-trained athletes on the face of the planet.  Years of training, sacrifice, and determination have gone into the few moments that will decide who is fastest, strongest, and most-skilled.  Watching Olympic athletes compete inspires us.  Even more, they don't do what they do for fame and money.  These men & women do what they do because inside each one lies a deep passion that has driven them to this place.

Whle watching these amazing athletes, we should know that, as followers of Christ, we too are athletes, however, our sport of choice is significantly different.

The Apostle Paul writes in his first letter to the Corinthian church:

"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize."

Paul encourages us here to live and train as the Olympic athletes do, but with a different goal in mind.

If an athlete has any hope of winning the coveted gold medal, he or she must put in the dedication & training.  May we be reminded, during these games, that, if we are to have any hope of being awarded the "crown that will last forever" we too must put in the necessary dedication & "strict training."

"For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come." - 1 Timothy 4:8

Guitar resource

This weekend I've taken a little time to watch worship leader & musician Paul Baloche's instructional DVD's on guitar playing.  They are an excellent resource and I learned quite a bit.  It's so easy to get stuck in playing the same thing all the time and some of the things Paul taught in these DVD's will stretch my playing for sure.  And though they are developed with playing in a worship setting in mind, I'm sure any guitar player could benefit from watching these.

Snow!!

For me, a good snow makes the cold weather worth it.

Overnight we got a good 6"-12", which meant church services cancelled (parking lots not plowed in time cuz places with big bucks matter more), getting to sleep in, having a nice breakfast and spending the afternoon enjoying the fluffy white stuff.

Zeke had a blast in the snow.

We are supposed to get some more tonight, so who knows maybe this will turn into a 3 day weekend.

Weekend post

Well, the weekend is upon us once again.

We're test driving a 2002 Saturn Vue this weekend.  Its pretty nice so far.  This will be the first vehicle that Rachel & I purchase as a married couple, exciting!  It will also be the most money either of us has spent on a car, not so exciting.

Tonight, we'll probably just relax at home.  I might play around with my PodXT and program some tones for Sunday morning worship.

On Saturday we are going up to Philly (unless it snows heavily) to have some fun in the city.  Might go to the auto show, of course we'll get some cheese steaks, and if the weathers nice we'll just stroll around the city.

Finally, on Sunday, I'll be joining the worship band on guitar, always a good time.

Hope your weekend is enjoyable!

Bono drops some wisdom

From Bono's speech at the National Prayer Breakfast:

"And this wise man said: stop. He said, Stop asking God to bless what you're doing. Get involved in what God is doing - because it's already blessed."

Good stuff
