Meanwhile, he's being held in a maximum security prison alongside with Taliban & al Qaeda prisoners, yeah real smart move.
 
His family says he's crazy.
 
Do these sound like the words of a crazy person:

"I am serene. I have full awareness of what I have chosen. If I must die, I will die," AP quoted Rahman as telling the Rome daily La Repubblica.

"Somebody, a long time ago, did it for all of us," he added in a clear reference to Jesus.

I don't think so.

People said Jesus was crazy too.

I'm glad to hear that he found safety and welcome somewhere.  But, should they really have said where he is?

(CNN) -- An Afghan man possibly facing execution for converting from Islam to Christianity is expected "to be released in the coming days," a source with detailed knowledge of the case said Friday.

This is good news, however, I'd like to know if Afghanistan has simply cracked under international pressure or if they have come to the realization that they CANNOT kill people just because they don't believe what they want them to!  And also, where is Rahman going to go?  I mean the Muslim clerics have said they will tell the people to kill him if he is released, so who is going to offer him refuge?

Saint Patrick

It's Saint Patrick's Day, a day that has become associated with nothing but drinking and the color green.  But, the real Saint Patrick was quite a guy.  He was a revolutionary Christian Missionary who, by ignoring the Roman church, brought Christianity to a people described as "barbarians."

Ebay Atheist

My friend Jeff ran across this in a Wall Street Journal article.  An atheist put himself on Ebay and the deal was that for every $10 he would go to 1 hour of church.  You can read the whole story here.
 
When I first read it I thought it was very interesting.  The "experiement" is still going on and is being recorded at this blog.
 
I haven't gotten too deep in reading the posts yet, but I am curious to hear what an atheist has to say about Christianity & Church. 
 
I have to say one thing, this takes some guts (faith?) on the guy who won the bid.  I look forward to following this unorthodox faith experiement.

Electric Bill is Jumping Up

Rate freezes instituted by the Delaware 1999 Electric Restructuring Act were lifted for the Delaware Electric Cooperative in March 2005, and will be lifted for Delmarva Power in May 2006. Rates for Delaware Electric Co-Op customers have already increased 6-8 percent since their rate freeze was lifted and are expected to increase further in early 2006. Delmarva Power recenetly announced that, after May 1, 2006 when its rate cap is lifted, the company's residential customers will face an average increase of 59 percent, while rate increases for Delaware businesses range from 47 to 118 percent.

 

Revolution - Relevant Magazine style

Looks like the good people at Relevant Magazine are coming out with their own version of the Revolution.  In contrast to the controversial book of the same name by George Barna, this book appears to lean more toward issues of social justice rather than how the church is changing.  From the promo video, it looks pretty interesting.
 

 

Walk the Line

We watched the movie Walk the Line this weekend with my parents.  We all thought it was a great movie.  I really didn't know much about Johnny Cash and never really got into his music, but after seeing this film and getting a little glimpse at his life, I see now why so many people like him and I'm probably gonna end up going to I-tunes and getting some of his music.  His was a fascinating life and I'm glad that he eventually found God.

I regret to say that that ridiculous song that won an Oscar last night, "It's hard out here for a pimp", is stuck in my head!  Ahhhhh.  I guess that's one reason why it won.  Can you imagine all those Academy people walking around whistling that tune!  Hilarious!

Saturday Night at Borders

Rachel and I took a little trip tonight to Chili's for dinner followed by one of our favorite things to do, go to Borders.  It was nice to get out of town and do something a little different.  I always enjoy taking mini-trips (the closest Borders is an hour away) with Rachel, we have good talks and it's just nice to be with her. 
 
At Borders, I like to get a latte', browse the books / music, and if I find something interesting, fight for one of those comfortable leather chairs and do a little reading.  Tonight, I picked up Malcolm Gladwell's latest book Blink, and read through the introductory chapter.  Fascinating stuff!  I'm definitely going to continue reading this book (hopefully sooner rather than later).  I'm particularly interested in reading it because it seems that the ideas presented are relevant to Christian spiritual formation and the idea of being so transformed into Christlikeness that living as Jesus did becomes natural (for more on this thought see this article by Dallas Willard).  If anyone reading this has read the book, I'd love to hear what you thought of it.
 
Now to cap off a great night, I'm gonna go watch the all new SNL.
 

 

Gallup Poll

I just took part in a Gallup Poll over the phone.  The subject: clothes and buying habits.  I'm probably the worst person to take this poll, as I rarely go clothes shopping and generally don't enjoy doing so when I do.  I probably skewed their results because I started making up answers to questions like, "When was the last time you bought something from Old Navy?"  Uhhhh.  The funny thing is, I kinda like taking those surveys, though I often feel like an idiot because I constantly have to ask them to repeat the question (they always talk so fast!) 
 
So when was the last time you went clothes shopping?  How much did you spend?  What brand comes to your mind when you think of quality?  What is more important to you quality or style?...........etc.

Lent

I actually don't remember the last time I participated in Lent, but I think I'm gonna try this year.  And the thing I'm going to fast, chocolate.  Yeah it doesn't sound super spiritual, but seeing as how I've already had a hard time not eating any over just the past day, perhaps for me its a good start.  I'd also like to make this a time for reflection, so maybe I'll set aside some time every week for looking inward.
 
Anyone else participating in Lent?
